WE ARE NOT JUST A MARCH BUT A MOVEMENT! JOIN US!
IMPACT and ACTION are the key words to 2020 Womxn's March Denver. In four year's time, we have evolved to be more than a March...we are a movement. There are many groups gathering in peaceful protest as our local elections approach and ballots are mailed. One of the groups organizing a march is Women’s March on October 17. Organized by the national organization, there’s a march on Colfax from The Fillmore Auditorium to the State Capitol. This group is not the same as the locally-based Womxn’s March Denver, which serves our region year after year. We wanted to clarify each of our groups’ identity and how we are responding to current events to support the issues both of our organizationshold in high priority.
Attending large public events is a huge dilemma for Womxn’s March Denver. At our roots, we are a marching organization that has brought out people by the thousands. We also realize that so many womxn are stressed now more than ever in keeping jobs, protecting their families, home, and health and fighting for all issues important to us. Womxn are bearing some of the largest and worst burdens of our time. We are especially attuned to the dilemmas in the lives of womxn of color since their communities are disproportionately affected by COVID-19, and their risks at large public gatherings are even greater. Because the Denver-based Womxn’s March Denver cares so deeply about critical issues in our local Denver-area community around health and safety, and the very high priority of getting out the vote, we are carefully focusing our local resources on voter registration and casting ballots rather than spending those resources on a march or indoor event as we did in January 2020. Supporting access to the vote this year is the most inclusive way our organization can get behind important issues while protecting the health and safety of our entire community. We applaud the courage of those who choose to march and encourage everyone to VOTE, and get involved in get out the vote efforts.
