This is her third year of involvement with the March and her first on the Exective Leadership Team. BRENDA HERRERA MORENOAt an early age, Brenda moved with her family from Mexico to India. When she turned 11, Brenda left India and moved to South Carolina. In 2016, Brenda founded (In)Visible Paradigms which provides a space for White individuals to openly discuss, express curiosities and concerns about anti-oppression, privilege and allyship. |

"I have always been a Feminist, and I saw danger ahead and it was time for me to act". Karen Hinkle is a co-founder of the 2017 Women's March on Denver. At the time of the march, she and her husband owned thlanthropic real estste TKH reality, from which 25% of their gross prophits were donated to non-propthes. she and her husbands hae retired from their business and now live.... property, aeolian acres, is an Artist Residency, an extension of Elsewhere Studios in Paonia; we grow hemp for CBD and rent tipis in the summer. North Fork Tipi Haven & camping. 37601 Hwy 133 Hotchkiss, Colorado 81419. Let me know if you want to come over this summer and we will comp you free weekday nights in the tipis for an experiential experience. Tony is just now getting our 2017 taxes done…it is very complicated for us financially and I know I need to pass all the papers to you when we are done. You can then have a concrete view of where all the $102,000 went to. When we get this done, I will send the papers to you. Early next year most likely? I am sorry to take so long to get this information to those of you continuing the Marches, but we had too many personal issues that stymied us, least of all a big move and lifestyle change. This has been a huge cloud over our heads, and we are finely wrapping our minds around the money issues facing our willingness to use our private accounts and socials for the WMoD 2017. I am open to personal questions if you need specific info regarding the finances of the WMoD 2017. The 3 of us original organizers; me, Cheetah and Jessica made the decision to be a grassroots event, and all the funds not used for the WMoD would be donated at the end of the event to Colorado non-profits that support marginalized women. I made sure all of the money was donated quickly, and the account was closed shortly after the funds were donated. It was important to me to see this through to the end of the money and closing the account ended my personal involvement. We raised $102,000. After expenses and paying 35% taxes we had $30,000 to donate. $8000 was given to Cheetah and $22,000 was given, via Colorado Gives, to non-profits in Colorado that support women issues. The last $550 was given to the drummer who broke her drum so she could purchase a replacement. Not a non-profit, but worthy of the last of the donations since she played her heart out for us. We/I saw the WMoD as an event to inspire women to return home and work for social justice by getting involved in local affairs; not as a ‘movement’ to form a coalition so to speak. We did not want to be beholden to any institute and did not want to form alliances. This was our belief in the beginning of the planning for the first WMoD. Mid-term elections saw the fruition of this thinking! I believe the amount of women running, and winning, is a direct result of the March. My personal lesson from organizing is that coming from a place of anger and hate is not how I want to live the rest of my life; so I took up the practice of meditation to learn the art of peaceful abiding. I am happy to see the continuation of the March and wish you all the very best. I still believe we have to DO something in the face of injustice, rather than do nothing. The WMoD was a huge something, and continues to motivate and inspire women to stand up for our rights as human beings. My reason for picking Denver is that there was affordable housing, a number of great universities and I could drive to work. In 2005 I graduated with a BA in Philosophy from CU Denver. I resigned from the friendly skies in 2007 and went into real estate full time. My husband, Tony, and I own TKH Realty The Philanthropic Real Estate Company We choose to donate 15% of our gross commission to local non-profit organizations. My husband and our 2 fat cats live in Speer Neighborhood. We both give to our communities either by volunteering or by giving donations. This is how we choose to operate in Life. "I have always been a Feminist, and I saw danger ahead and it was time for me to act". |
Cheetah McCallen is a co-founder of Women's March on Denver, 2017 and March On Colorado. With the conversion of the 6,000+ member Women's March on Denver facebook page to Colorado Actions of Resistance and Effect (CARE) Cheetah resigned her position and took up community activism while finishing her teaching license. She has since organized other local marches such as [the march 1 week before denver pride], the kids march, and the upcoming International Womens Day march [see all events on facebook for links and correct dates.] and also did a Tedx Talk. -[we have to include this so as not too seemas if we're silencing her criticism.
The above is as I would like it to stay and we should talk about some of her achievements. you can kind of just swaddle her ego and she'll calm down. Cheetah McClellan and her family live in Denver where she is a math interventionist for Denver Public Schools and helps to run her husband's chimney sweep business, Alpine Chimney Sweep. Cheetah is a University of Colorado - Denver graduate and is currently working towards her Master's in Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education and Curriculum Design. |
